Hate raids are large amounts of bots and trolls sharing a single stream link to a discord server or forum. They then post racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, and other horrendous things into the streamer's chat. Occurring since the days of 4Chan, Twitch hasn't done much in the way of protecting streamers. The best thing you can do when it happens is to get control of chat, react in a way YOU are comfortable with (or not at all), and keep streaming. Preparation is key and you're in the right place. Here we will discuss in-depth creative processes to help you and your mods before, during, and after a Hate Raid.

Hate Raid Response is a group of motivated streamers, moderators, and viewers dedicated to supporting each other while forming creative solutions to Twitch's Hate Raid issue. Since January 2021, HRR has organized itself in Discord with a strong 13-member admin team. Together, we learn, share & assist in preventative & reactive measures to counter hate raids on Twitch--before, during, and after they occur.

Banning bots before raids occur is a useful way to stay ahead of the game. Users that have been blocked are still able to send messages in your public chat channel. Whereas banning a user prevents them from sending any messages in your channel. For the safety purposes of our contributors, personally created ban lists are available in our Discord server only.

SmashbotDon't give hate raiders any more of your precious time: Smash Bot will ban AND block them all automatically. Check and save to subscribe to all these lists wonderful folks like Hackbolt manage. This and SO much more. Thank you Modest Mishmash for this amazing update!

FossabotFeatures a Nuke and Radiation command, use with extreme caution. Read more here to help you decide if this is what's right for you.

Timed Out BotJuliancito made a small but powerful bot for us that requires chatters to have a custom, minimum age requirement--timing them out otherwise. Fantastic against this new method of hate raids that send actual Twitch raids from hundreds of brand new bot accounts at once.

Stay Calm. React how YOU want to react, do not let them deter you. You are prepared. You are strong. And you are smart as hell!During the raid, take a deep breath. Use that "panic" button, trust your mods and open up a browser. Simply open a block or ban tool and get to work! Are you or are you moderating for a small streamer? Or is this the first time? Or are you just so frantic you're not sure where to go first? Jump in our Discord for immediate, personal assistance. We have a report system in place to help streamers assign temporary mods to their channel. When we say we've got your back...we mean it!

When the coast is clear, revert things back to a normal you are comfortable with. If it has been happening often, maybe don't show alerts or turn that bot back on just yet! You could consider lessening your chat access from sub only to follower only, etc.Go through your clips at some point and delete any clips of your hate raid from folks you don't recognize. Feel free to download and save for yourself or your mods. But delete that clip asap! No need to let them derive any more pleasure from their bs.Learn anything? What went well? What didn't work? Please let us know in Discord or via Email. We're ready to update this resource as we learn!

Here is a compiled list of understood tools Twitch has available to combat harassment. It is not a lot, but being familiar with all these things and their potential is a strong start!

Please be aware, /clear does not currently work on those with BTTV enabled. Consider adding !hype or !emotes at the end of your "panic" button's sequence to drown the bot spam.

What better way to corner Twitch into listening to us than by banding together on their own tools? Login to support individual ideas today!

A sequence of actions that can be performed quickly by the streamer with the press of one button to mitigate many aspects of a hate raid. It generally consists of using the minimum Twitch tools as well as third parties mentioned in this guide by:

This can be implemented with a Multi-Action on your Stream Deck, a sequence in Lioranboard, Kruiz Control, or whatever tool you use for automating your stream. Look below at the specific sources you use for more in-depth explanations. All examples provided are more suggestions of HOW ultimately it is up to you what order you'd like things in!

The strongest weapons in our arsenal are the chat bots and stream boards available. Below we've compiled the most effective creative uses for the most commonly used bots.

Command ListA valuable, well-loved bot, however if you experience a hate raid, be sure to use !bot mute/!bot unmute. This will silence the bot in the event that you are followed by hundreds of accounts at once, preventing their potentially offensive names from showing up in chat as a "thank you for following!"You can also have a browser source pulled up straight to your dashboard.

Cloudbot Command ListBe sure to include in your panic button a step that opens a browser straight to your dashboard. This will ensure that without thinking, you can quickly and easily turn the bot off and then back on again later! The link should be something like: https://streamlabs.com/dashboard#/cloudbot/modules/chat-alertsHowever, if you're looking at SLOBS, you can also look over on the side where it says "Streamlabs." Click on it for the dropdown to mute and pause alerts directly in your stream deck!

Chatbot Command ListThis is where we'll get a little tricky. Since the on/off toggle is in the program and not on a web browser, we suggest leaving your program on that screen. That way if you are hate raided, you can very quickly pop right over and turn the bot off. Preventing the bot from thanking potentially offensive usernames in chat!

(Get it here!)An incredible multi-tool bot created by Modest_Mishmash: Automatically ban AND block likely bot accounts & spammers, completely block accounts that you've banned, import blocklists, & restrict chat w/ additional filters. Tired of importing block lists? Sync up with other streamers' ban and block lists with a checkbox and save button--work smarter not harder!

Please do not import lists at this time: Smashbot itself has Hackbolt's Master List imported. Simply subscribe, save and stay up to date with no further action needed!

SO much more to come:

"Some features are still to be added over the following weeks but it will give you some protection already! Just head over to the page, sign in, and activate whichever chat filters you want (don't forget to press save). If you've signed up previously during testing you will need to do so again!"

(Get it here!) or (Walk me through setup!)A paid-for device that features customization and control. With the click of a button, hide sources, switch scenes, clean up chat, and get Commanderroot tools opened and ready. One click of a button and you can breeze by a hate raid with little to no impact on yourself or chat.

(Get it here!) and (Walk me through setup!)Most commonly found setup--With the click ofa button, hide sources, switch scenes, clear chat, and turn off any alert and desktop soundstemporarily. One click of a button and you canbreeze by a hate raid with little to no impact on yourself or chat.

(Get it here!) or (Walk me through setup!)Another powerful stream board: You or your moderators can hide sources, switch scenes, clear chat, set slow/follower only modes, and turn off any alerts temporarily with a single chat command. For maximum ease, you can program your Streamdeck to send this command with the single press of a button, while still allowing your mods to do it from chat as a backup.

Here's what an "unpanic" button could look like:

Why do we like Mix It Up so much?

Command ListA more powerful bot, Wizebot is capable of covering at least the command side of a panic button for you. The selling point here would be that mods can also trigger the command!

(Get it here!) or Walk me through setup!A mobile app that connects to a desktop app where you can control all kinds of things. For example, change obs scenes, run x application etc. Enabling a powerful tool for stream control!

Whether or not you've experienced a hate raid, it is good to stay on top of your own safety. Your personal information is out there! The following are actions some streamers take to protect their personal information while live streaming.

A huge part of hate raids is that they don't end on Twitch. There are discord servers out there restreaming your content, organizing raids, and then posting links to your discord to raid it, too. Simple things like automod and having a step by step process before gaining access to the server can do wonders for prevention. Here's an explanation in under a minute by ImZaytri:

Security by Mermaid RoyalA free, virtual stream deck with exceptional customization and control. With the click ofa button, hide sources, switch scenes, clean up chat, and get Commanderroot tools opened and ready. One-click of a button (or heck even a hotkey!) and you can breeze by a hate raid with little to no impact on yourself or chat.

Keyboard Stream DeckAnother free alternative, Nutty walks us through setting up any old keyboard to fulfill its destiny as a stream deck. Check out his other video on more free alternatives here.

Sir BotisA chatbot and overlay tool that provides integration between a streamer's Twitch and Discord channels. Simply add as a browser source for an easier to moderate carousel.

ChattyYou may want to log your chat to a local file in your computer. A free and open-source program that can be configured to log all chat activity to a file (Settings > Chat > Log to file). It’s also a super nice way to have a more advanced chat interface for your stream and to log your chat as a local file after a raid.

Above all else, believe each other.Care about each other.Support each other.Interact with folks every day, not just when they get a hate raid.
